Who operates Presto Cut
Presto Cut is operated by Ian Richard Hamilton, a sole trader trading as Presto Cut in the United Kingdom. Ian Richard Hamilton is the data controller for personal information handled directly by Presto Cut. Contact: support@getprestocut.com.
Presto Cut is local-first Windows desktop software. Imported source videos, project files and rendered exports are stored on your computer and are not uploaded to Presto Cut's licensing service. AI processing is the exception described below.
AI providers
During the complimentary hosted AI trial, compressed audio segments and transcript/editing data are transmitted through Presto Cut's trial service to OpenAI for transcription, cleanup and Shorts selection. Presto Cut does not deliberately retain the audio or transcript content after a request completes. Minimal usage records are retained to enforce the trial, including an anonymous one-way installation identifier, a one-way short-lived network activation marker, activation and expiry times, processed duration, request counts, estimated cost and abuse-control events.
If you add your own OpenAI API key, AI requests use the existing direct OpenAI workflow and do not consume the hosted trial allowance. Your key is protected using Windows credential encryption and is not sent to Presto Cut's hosted service. AI transfers are also governed by OpenAI's terms and privacy policy. Do not process content you are not authorised to send to the provider.
Licence service
Licence activation sends the entered licence identifier and a one-way computer identifier to Presto Cut's licensing service. The service stores licence tier, source, status, activation identifiers and operational timestamps so it can enforce device limits and respond to upgrades, downgrades, deactivations and refunds.
Local information
Settings, licence state, projects and diagnostic logs are stored locally under the user's Presto Cut application-data directory. Current diagnostic logs record operational summaries rather than full transcripts and are not automatically transmitted to Presto Cut. Logs created by older versions may contain transcript text.
Retention and rights
Local projects can be removed from within the app. Licence records are retained while needed to provide the purchase, prevent abuse, meet legal obligations and resolve support issues. To request access, correction or deletion of hosted licence data, email support@getprestocut.com.
Security and changes
Presto Cut uses encrypted transport for its licensing service and Windows-protected local credential storage. No system is completely secure. Material policy changes will be published on this page.
